J. Michael Cleverley writes non-fiction. His book on Larry Thorne was a best seller in Europe and in America remains the definitive study of this illustrious Special Forces hero and legend. His book, Family Stories …and How I Found Mine, is a powerful tour of the past 1000 years through the eyes of those who lived them. All have one thing in common: they were ancestors. Along the way is a narrative on how he found them.

Michael also spent a career as an American diplomat. After retiring from the U.S. Department of State, he has taken temporary assignments with the State Department and taught university political science, economics, and American history. An oral history of his years in the State Department is available on Amazon (Michael Cleverley: An Oral History), as is also a memoir derived from the oral history (An American Tune).
